Simply put, a monument is a memorial to the past. A tribute to the deceased and a marker of that person’s grave.
When researching genealogy a monument also becomes a document stating that person’s name, birth and death dates and sometimes includes the spouse and children’s information as well. An epitaph also gives an indication of how the person is remembered.
